Sometimes I just don't want to cook (too much)

This post is what it says on the tin: sometimes I just really really really don’t want to cook.

Take the past couple of weeks as the perfect example: I started off excited about a weekend all to myself and the prospect of cooking just what I wanted like I wanted it and when I wanted it and then descended into a spiral of self-pity caused by my first bout of flu for this marvellous Autumn/Winter ’11.

The bogies come in a wide array of green hues this season in case you were wondering.

And even though I’m the kinda girl who doesn’t really lose her appetite whilst ill I do crave things and this week it was pre-packed and/or far from wholesome food stuffs that required minimum preparation time on my part.
A far cry from the chicken fajitas I took the time to write about last time!

There was frozen pizza - no photo available so you will only have to believe me on this one.

There were brie and mango chutney quesadillas – The brie being a supermarket’s own brand and the chutney not being made by me, but Ahmed (see? There’s his name on the label).

There were pre-prepared burgers, because even if I had fresh minced meat in the fridge I could not face the hassle of forming it into patties and going through the emotional drama of have them disintegrate when I didn’t pay enough attention to the cooking process.
These were “steak burgers” apparently – I’ll take whatever the supermarket wants to tell me in this instance.

There was A LOT of noodle soup and this was the £.060 a pack kind of noodle soup that is so full of colorants and fake seasoning that even a child in the 70s would want a bowl. I think this is one of the few seasoning kits I don’t mind. In fact, I love them.

And then my favourite meal of them all: oven-baked chicken goujons with a side of iceberg lettuce.

Now, as I enjoyed this last delicacy I asked myself two important questions “Why don’t I buy iceberg lettuce more often?!” – It lasts longer than most types of lettuce and it has crunch and stuff – and “Why don’t I buy more chicken goujons?!” – Oh, yeah, because you’ll find that I didn’t bother making them from scratch; I bought them in a pack (see exhibit A below), took them out, put them in a baking tray and whacked them in the oven.

Sometimes I feel just fine with taking shortcuts and giving myself a few days off.

Me too...
And it annoys me when friends express shock about it or mock it, as though being into great food means you somehow don't have the same lazy and off days as everyone else...
Had horrid lurgy too, mine long gone but chesty phlegm remains, always takes me ages to get rid.
FEEL BETTER SOON.

I'm pretty damn lazy too - I'm exhausted after a busy day at work. Hooray for oven bake thingies!
