One would be led to believe that because I haven’t been posting recipes for the past month I haven’t been cooking either.
Truth is I have been cooking, but not as much as I’d normally do – It happens when the weather is nice and one wants to go enjoy a glass of Pimm’s or an ice cold glass of white wine on a terrace, because, you know, one lives in England and God knows for how long one will get to enjoy some sunshine.
But now it looks like we have entered monsoon season in London; that light and happy summer feeling is gone and we’re back to wrapping ourselves up in cosy jumpers, raincoats and chunky shoes that will not allow water through and so I return my attention to the kitchen, because, let’s face it, it’s the only thing that’s going to cheer me up and distract me from the fact that I live in a country where the sun hardly ever shines.
Anyway, last week I made my way to Bristol to wiggle my way through St. Paul’s Carnival (the UK’s oldest carnival in case you were wondering) once again and pay a visit to the Grill Stock festival the following day.
The former was great fun, although, we were served parboiled rice rather than rice and peas with our jerk chicken and goat curry which I was not impressed with, but then I had a pizza that cost £5 and was delivered with a side of chips.
For £5! DELIVERED! And it didn’t give me food poisoning!
Amazing.
Grill Stock, though, was on the disappointing side with most of the stalls selling hot sauce (I have “Picante!” So meh) and only one place to buy ribs from.
Not even pulled pork. I really-really wanted pulled pork.
Not even pulled pork. I really-really wanted pulled pork.
WHERE WAS THE PULLED PORK, MR. GRILL STOCK?!
I was duped and mislead and grumpy, but then again I had one thing to cheer me up which was the discovery of The Bath Pig chorizo.
My friend Becky has been working for them part-time and has been telling me to try it, but I just never got round to it.
And then on Sunday I did get round to trying it and, well, they have a new customer to be honest.
And before anyone starts rolling their eyes at me for plugging something my friend works with I would like to say that I paid for the 3 chorizos I took home with me.
So there.
I bought a classic chorizo, a spicy one and a herbs and garlic one (The Rosemary is strong in this one) and because I’m greedy and I wanted to tuck into one soon I ended up throwing some of the spicy one in with boiled potatoes to make quite the good potato salad.
I must admit, though, I had originally intended to use the classic one, but then I grabbed the wrong pack and by the time I realised it was too late.
Ah, well.
Anyway, here it goes. It has flavours from the Mediterranean and none of that horrendous mayo overload you get in shop-bought ones.
In fact, it has no mayo at all because the more time passes the least I like mayo.
Or let me rephrase that, the least I consider mayo an appropriate addition to everything I put on the table.
Potato and chorizo salad
Serves 2
4 medium potatoes, diced, skin on
1 spring onion finely chopped
½ cup finely chopped curly leaf parsley (because it tastes better than flat leaf parsley. I DON’T CARE WHAT YOU SAY!)
Juice and rind of 1 lemon
3tbsp extra virgin olive oil
50 grams spicy chorizo diced
Salt and pepper to taste
Boil the potatoes and once done drain and let cool for 10 minutes or so.
In the meanwhile, fry the chorizo bites until they’re nice and crispy.
Mix the chorizo and the oil it released when cooking with the potatoes and all other ingredients.
Done.
*I would not recommend having this cold from the fridge – Room temperature will do quite nicely.

Mmm, love chorizo and potato salad! They do it in one of the really nice cafes in Leeds. Delish!
I love a nit of chorizo in my potato salad, quite fond of throwing bacon in as well!
I love chorizo! This sounds so yummy and simple to make! I'm definitely going to try it... With the parsley from my balcony garden :)
